Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal disorder common among women that results in prolonged or irregular periods or development of follicles in ovaries.
This leads to failure of eggs release from the fallopian tube, causing hindrance in pregnancy.
Women with PCOS have a higher risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Signs and Symptoms of PCOS
- Irregular menstrual periods
- Infertility—PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility
- Obesity—Up to 80% of women with PCOS are obese
- Excess hair growth on the face, chest, abdomen, or upper thighs
- Severe acne or acne that does not go with treatments
- Patches of thickened and dark skin( acanthosis nigricans)
Causes of PCOS?
Although the cause of PCOS is unknown but following are the common factors of PCOS:-
- Excess insulin
- Low-grade inflammation
- Excess androgen
- Heredity
